TimesTen Client Connection Failed With Error: "08001: Unable to connect to data source ... EHOSTUNREACH: No route to host. TimesTen Server is unreachable." (Doc ID 1571037.1)

Symptoms

User had just created a new TimesTen database and was attempting to configure client connection settings in sys.odbc.ini and sys.ttconnect.ini.

In testing ttIsql (direct connection), it succeeded, but in testing ttIsqlcs (client connection), user got:

08001: Unable to connect to data source (DSN: mydsn; Network Address: myttserver.mycompany.com; Port Number: 53397). EHOSTUNREACH: No route to host. TimesTen Server is unreachable

User checked what port the server runs on by doing ttStatus on the TimeTen database machine:

$ ttstatus
TimesTen status report as of Wed Jul 24 09:15:22 2013

Daemon pid 8566 port 44210 instance tt112241_64
TimesTen server pid 8591 started on port 53389
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Data store /ds/mydsn
There are no connections to the data store

User found it odd that the error message indicated it failed on port 53397 but TimesTen server is running on 53389.  This discrepency is explained below in the Solution section.
