Font Server Queries may Cause X Application Sessions Launched from Secure Global Desktop to Crash (Doc ID 1597882.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 18, 2013

Applies to:

Oracle Secure Global Desktop - Version 4.7 to 4.71 [Release 4.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In a Secure Global Desktop (SGD) environment configured with the x11 Font Path set to use a Specific Server at the begining of a large Font Path, it may be found that in some scenarios when an X application requests a font, the requesting X session will crash.

For example:

# /opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella config list --xpe-fontpath
xpe-fontpath:
 "tcp/secure.qedfs.com:7100,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/data/share/fonts/X11/misc,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/data/share/fonts/X11/TTF,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/data/share/fonts/X11/Type1,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/data/share/fonts/X11/OTF,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/data/share/fonts/X11/100dpi,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/data/share/fonts/X11/75dpi,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/data/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/data/share/fonts/X11/ibm,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/misc,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/TTF,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/Type1,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/CID,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/local,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/75dpi,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/100dpi,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/ibm,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/hp,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/andrew,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/icl,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/scoterm,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/cyrillic,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/hangul,%%INSTALLDIR%%/etc/fonts/boston/oriental"

In this state, an error is seen typically such as:

Fatal IO error: client killed

 or:

X connection to localhost:15.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
