How to Upgrade to Secure Global Desktop, Version 5.1 and later Using a non-Standard Installation Directory on Linux

(Doc ID 1635137.1)

Last updated on MAY 29, 2015

Applies to:

Oracle Secure Global Desktop - Version 4.63 to 5.2 [Release 4.0 to 5.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Previous versions of Oracle's Secure Global Desktop (SGD) for Linux were packaged using RPM package format, allowing installations in directories other than the default install location, /opt/tarantella.  e.g.

# rpm -Uvh --prefix [new location absolute path]  [path to SGD rpm]

The Release Notes for SGD 5.1 and later announced the deprecation of the previous rpm package format, which will complicate the upgrade of previous versions, installed in a non-default directory.

Note: Additional information on installing SGD can be found within the installation manual, at:http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37459_01/E37462/html/install-sgd.html

This article provides guidance on how to continue upgrading from a non-default directory on Linux 6 systems.
