Create A Virtual Function (VF) On Internal NICs Does Not Show Up On LDOM At The OK Prompt For T5 Ser (Doc ID 1644539.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 01, 2019

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 10 10/08 U6 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

On T5 platform, Virtual Function(VF) built on an on-board NIC cannot be seen in OK prompt from a Guest Domain. The issue doesn't happen on T4 platform.

For example:

Following VF has been created over on-board and external NIC respectively:

#ldm list-io -l
/SYS/RIO/NET0/IOVNET.PF0                  PF     pci_0    primary
   maxvfs = 63
/SYS/RIO/NET0/IOVNET.PF0.VF0              VF     pci_0
   Class properties [NETWORK]
       mac-addr = 00:14:4f:f8:c9:0b
       port-vlan-id = 190
       mtu = 1500
/SYS/RCSA/PCIE11/IOVNET.PF0               PF     pci_3    primary
   maxvfs = 63
/SYS/RCSA/PCIE11/IOVNET.PF0.VF0           VF     pci_3
   Class properties [NETWORK]
       mac-addr = 00:14:4f:f9:42:5d
       mtu = 1500

Adding both VF to a Guest Domain "ddcdb63":
#ldm add-io /SYS/RIO/NET0/IOVNET.PF0.VF0 ddcdb63           <---- Internal NIC
#ldm add-io /SYS/RCSA/PCIE11/IOVNET.PF0.VF0 ddcdb63     <---- External NIC

At the OK prompt on LDOM "ddcdb63":

{0} ok show-nets
a) /pci@3c0/pci@1/pci@0/pci@e/network@0,80        <----- only see the External NIC
Enter Selection, q to quit: q
{0} ok

Only VF on external NIC can be seen.
