Choppy Audio Is Heard When Connecting to Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure 3.5 Or Sun Ray Software 5.4.2 Session Via VRDP (Doc ID 1665100.1)

Last updated on APRIL 28, 2014

Applies to:

Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure - Version 3.5 to 3.5 [Release 3.0]
Sun Ray Software - Version SRS 5.4.2 to SRS 5.4.2 [Release 5.0]
Generic Linux

Symptoms

Users connecting to Desktops via Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) 3.5 Or Sun Ray Software (SRS) 5.4.2 sessions report that sound in their session is choppy. i.e it is not clear or smooth but breaks up when, for example, playing a .MP3 audio file.

The choppy audio is heard from all Sun Ray clients but only from VDI and SRS installations on supported Linux platforms.  This problem is not seen on supported Solaris platforms. A list of supported platforms can be found at:

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35310_01/E41121/html/Reqs.html#Reqs-OS

Additionally, in case of using VDI, this happens for Windows or Unix sessions but only when connecting to supported Desktops using vRDP.  Connecting via RDP does not exhibit the problem.

NOTE: Previous versions of VDI and SRS did not exhibit this behavior
