(Doc ID 1665369.1)

Applies to:
Oracle Exalytics Software - Version 1.0.0.0.0 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Goal
When comparing the operating system packages on Oracle Linux, (or Oracle Linux on Exalytics), to Red Hat Linux there are differences in the number of packages installed.
For example, standard Red Hat Linux 5 distributions include a lower number of packages than those seen on Oracle Linux 5 distributions. Additionally, the number of packages on Oracle Exalytics Linux 5.5, (PS1 through 3), and 5.8 (PS4), servers are higher still than Oracle Linux 5.
Why are there differences in the package levels between Red Hat and Oracle Linux; and between Oracle Linux and Exalytics Linux? Will the number of packages for Exalytics be reduced in a future release?
