Applies to:

Solaris Cluster - Version 3.0 to 4.3 [Release 3.0 to 4.3]
Oracle Solaris on x86 (32-bit)
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (32-bit)
Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)
OSC is a very robust product suite which primarily includes the cluster framework and several agents which have been written and tested by OSC engineering that allow various applications to be started, stopped, monitored and highly available. The framework and agents are fully supported by Oracle Global Support Services (GSS) and OSC sustaining (provided the release is not End-of-life).

Also included in the OSC product suite is the ability to create your own Resource Type (RT/Agent) using the 'Agent Builder'. Providing it meets certain requirements this will allow third party applications to run under the cluster framework. These are usually provided by third party vendors who have developers with significant expertise in this technology area.

Purpose

System Administrators who manage and maintain OSC environments in which a custom RT has been created and implemented as a OSC managed resource need to know what to do and who to contact in the event that there are problems with the application or agent involved. They should also have a working knowledge of the application and agent as well as Oracle Solaris Cluster itself. There are training opportunities for this product via Oracle University. Live Virtual Class (LVC) can be a very convenient means of getting properly trained without the need for travel.
