Symptoms
Issues with tape drives led customer to restart ACSLS and the library.
After running 'samd stop' and 'samd start', the drives are all in a "down" state.
STATUS_COMMUNICATION_FAILED errors are logged in system messages file. These are preceded by "getrpcbyname failed" errors.
Prior to this, the only problem is with drive 601:

There is only one SSI process ( ssi_so ) running but rpcinfo shows three SSI program numbers that cannot be deleted by 'rpcinfo -d'.
( These are be preventing the robotics daemons to restart successfully. )
Changes
Rebooted the library and cycled the ACSLS software
