The Oracle Secure Global Desktop Administration Console Reports a "Critical Error" When Assigning an Application to LDAP Users

Symptoms
To assign application objects to LDAP-authenticated users with the Oracle Secure Global Desktop (SGD) Administration Console, the SGD administrator can follow the steps at: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E41492_01/E41495/html/apps-publishing.html#assign-apps-ldap-users
In some situations, the Administration Console will report a "Critical Error." This condition may be reported for LDAP users at a certain nested depth within the LDAP Directory.
For example, if the top level of the LDAP Directory is:
o=Indigo
and the user is:
uid=user1,ou=Users,o=Indigo
