Last updated on MARCH 18, 2021

Applies to:

SPARC T5-8
SPARC T5-4
Oracle SuperCluster T5-8 Hardware
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

This document will provide the firmware and procedure for upgrading the T5-4 and T5-8 A261 PSU's in the field. The firmware is intended to resolve known issue with  part number 7068817 Power Supplies (PSU)  where  POWER CYCLE FAULTS T5-4/8 PSU & CAN'T BE CLEARED.

The failure mode is that if one of the PSUs loses AC input for 30s then it can go into a persistent fault state with fault LED on and no ILOM fault logged; PSU reseat alleviates the persistent fault condition. Permanent fix requires PSU FW upgrade.

Scope

The current released firmware is on MOS  (SPARC T5-4+T5-8+T7-4 Hardware Programmables 1.0.7, patch number 23750155).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If system are running ILOM 4.x or higher, use SPARC T5-4+T5-8+T7-4 Hardware Programmables 1.0.7.A (patch number 26964018) instead.

Proactive replacement of PSU 7068817 without trying FW upgrade first is not allowed. If PSU fails to upgrade replace it with PN 7081596

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION:

Due to bug 28157386 (Deferred Firmware Update: disable in 4.0.4 for SPARC platforms), we could not live upgrade the PSU firmware with ilom version 4.0.4 or higher. Options are downgrade the ilom version to less then 4.0.4 or upgrade the PSU firmware after "stop /SYS.
