Observed Memory Fail Error On Both Supervisors of CISCO MDS Switch. ERROR: Memory data bus failed at address 0x20000000 on data line 1 (Doc ID 1916521.1)

Symptoms

The Cisco 9509 switch would not power up after an unplanned power outage.

 

The following messages were observed as the switch tried to powered up:

DRAM: SPD Checksum ok!

ECC Initialization of Bank 0: Done
ECC Initialization of Bank 1: Done
CAS Latency = 2.5 tRP = 3 tRAS = 7 tRCD=3
Total SDRAM memory is 1024 MB
ERROR: Memory data bus failed at address 0x20000000 on data line 1

The switch repeatedly failed to power up. Memory DIMMS on both supervisors had failed preventing the swtch from powering up.
