Setting maxphys to a High Value Can Cause Solaris System Hangs (Doc ID 1930838.1)

Solaris Operating System - Version 8 6/00 U1 and later
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Symptoms

Add the following to /etc/system to set maxphys to 16mb:

set maxphys=16777216


Reboot the system to enable the maxphys value

Use newfs to create a ufs filesystem on a Logical Volume
Manager device, built on SAS or SATA disks, using the
mpt driver:
