Oracle Exalytics and OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1: Connection Fails When Retrieving Row Count on Teradata Data Source in OBIEE Admin Tool (Doc ID 1931223.1)

Symptoms

Using Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) 11.1.1.7.140715 with Teradata 13.10 data source on single node OBIEE server on Exalytics.  When connecting via OBIEE Admin tool as the biadmin user, a Teradata data source can be imported successfully.
When trying to do row counts, the OBIEE admin tool reports "connection has failed" error message.  At the same time, the nqserver.log shows message like:

[2014-09-23T08:36:34.000+02:00] [OracleBIServerComponent] [ERROR:1] [] [] [ecid: ] [tid: ] [nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: IM002 code: 0 message: [DataDirect][ODBC lib] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. [[
[nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS.
]]

This problem can also occur on a standalone (non-Exalytics) OBIEE server environment.
