How to update the bash shell on Solaris 11.2 independently of the SRU cycle
(Doc ID 1934541.1)
Last updated on JUNE 13, 2023
Applies to:
Solaris Operating System - Version 11.2 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Goal
Fixes for bash(1) have been introduced in the Oracle Solaris 11.2.2.8.0 Support Repository Update (Oracle Solaris 11.2 SRU2.8.0).
Customers who do not wish to update to this SRU immediately, can still apply the relevant shell/bash package version now. This document shows how to update the shell/bash package without updating the whole system.
This method uses the unlocking mechanism described in http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-admin/tips-maintain-s11-sru-1627108.html.
The locking mechanism was put in place for such cases, however for the normal operations packages should remain locked.
Once a system has been updated to the SRU the shell/bash package should be relocked as per the last step below.
