Last updated on SEPTEMBER 04, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure - Version 3.5 to 3.5.1 [Release 3.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

In an Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) cluster in which Oracle VirtualBox is used as the Desktop Provider, are mixed hardware host servers supported for the Desktop Provider ?

For example, for a VirtualBox Desktop provider with the following configuration:

$ prtdiag
System Configuration: Oracle Corporation SUN SERVER X4-2
BIOS Configuration: American Megatrends Inc. 25010604 03/20/2014
BMC Configuration: IPMI 2.0 (KCS: Keyboard Controller Style)

==== Processor Sockets ====================================

Version Location Tag
-------------------------------- --------------------------
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 v2 @ 2.60GHz P0
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 v2 @ 2.60GHz P1

Or even newer, to a Desktop Provider that currently contains servers like :

$ prtdiag
System Configuration: Oracle Corporation SUN FIRE X4170 M3
BIOS Configuration: American Megatrends Inc. 17050100 08/29/2013
BMC Configuration: IPMI 2.0 (KCS: Keyboard Controller Style)

==== Processor Sockets ====================================

Version Location Tag
-------------------------------- --------------------------
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2690 0 @ 2.90GHz P0
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2690 0 @ 2.90GHz P1

is this supported by VDI ?
