HSM (SAM-QFS): catalog, devlogs and Other Working Files Are Gone After IPS pkg uninstall (Doc ID 1952342.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 17, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) and StorageTek QFS Software - Version 5.4 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

When using 'pkg uninstall' and 'pkg install', instead of 'pkg update', to reinstall the samfs packages using IPS, several SAM-QFS working files (such as the catalogs, devlog files, ...) will be moved to a temporary directory. As a result, after the reinstallation the catalogs will contain no usage information or reservation information, and the devlogs will start from scratch, just as expected by a fresh install.

If you were intending to reinstall from scratch the sam-qfs packages using IPS commands, to end up with a fresh installation, then pkg uninstallpkg install is the correct method to use.

For a correct way to upgrade an existing sam-qfs installation, that was previously installed using the IPS packaging commands, keeping all the configuration/working files/directories in place, consult the MOS knowledge document 1951924.1
