After Upgrading Symantec End Point On Oracle VM Virtual Box 4.3.13 And Later Windows host, All Virtual Machines Refuse To Start (Doc ID 1970518.1)

In an environment with Oracle VM VirtualBox (VirtualBox) 4.3.13 and later installed on a supported Windows host, Symantec End Point is upgraded to version 12.1.5337.5000 (or greater). After the upgrade, administrators find that the guest Virtual Machines (VMs) on that host will no longer start. An example of the behavior seen is:

1) Select a virtual machine to start.
2) Start it.
3) There's a long pause (20-30 secs approx) before the Starting VM "Creating process for virtual machine ..... (GUI/Qt)" message appears.
4) This message stays up, but stuck with progress bar at 0%, which doesn't progress.
5) Then eventually a message is seen: "VirtualBox - Error in supR3HardNtChildWaitFor" with an Abort button.


In addition, the VBoxStartup.log(located in the VirtualBox install directory) will have entries much like this:




Symantec End Point on Windows  VirtualBox host upgraded to version 12.1.5337.5000 (or greater).

VirtualBox upgraded to a version between 4.3.12 and 4.3.20.
