OVM 3.1 : How to Configure FC Tape Libraries on a Guest Ldom using DIO (Doc ID 1987052.1)

Goal

NOTE: The procedure below only applies to OVM 3.1
In the later releases of OVM  starting from 3.1.1, SR-IOV can be used to directly configure tape drives (or any type of SAN storage device) to a guest LDOM.

OVM 3.1  does not support virtualized  tape drive via SR-IOV.
However  connection to guest LDOMs is possible using DIO (Direct IO)

You will need to map at least one PCIe slot into the relevant guest domain, with the HBA for the tape drive (scsi or fc) seated in that slot.

This can be done with SDIO (one slot) or by assigning a PCIe root complex to the guest.

 

SPARC M7 series server, SPARC T7 series server, and SPARC S7 series server: The direct I/O feature is not supported , as explained on: Oracle VM Server for SPARC 3.4 Administration Guide , Chapter 9, Current Direct I/O Feature Limitations

Note - The direct I/O feature is not supported on the SPARC M7 series server, SPARC T7 series server, and SPARC S7 series server.
Instead, use the PCIe bus assignment feature. See Creating a Root Domain by Assigning PCIe Buses.
