Zpools configured using Symantec Vertias DMP (VxDMP) devices become faulted during single path failure
(Doc ID 1995375.1)
Last updated on APRIL 09, 2023
Applies to:
Solaris Operating System - Version 10 8/07 U4 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Goal
A ZFS Virtual Device (VDEV) may become UNAVAIL despite the underlying Veritas DMP device successfully failing over when a storage controller becomes unreachable.
ZFS is not path aware and is only concerned about the device(s) configured in the zpool. The zpool relies on the availability of the top-level DMP device(s), not the underlying physical paths.
Should the issue described in this document be encountered, ZFS related FMA ereports will show "zio_err = 6". This field uses standard error notation(reference /usr/include/sys/errno.h) and 6 = No such device or address. The zpool device(s), more specifically the DMP nodes, are not available and the zpool, being in a non-redundant(no zpool mirrors or raidz) configuration, is forced to fault.
