Relinking Legacy Oracle Applications May Fail on Solaris 11.3 (Doc ID 2090977.1)

Symptoms

Oracle DB 11.2.0.3 on Solaris 11.3.

After upgrading from Solaris 11.2 to Solaris 11.3, relinking of Oracle DB binaries fails as follows:

INFO: /usr/ccs/bin/make -f /u01/home/oracle/product/cellarm/db/precomp/lib/ins_precomp.mk relink EXENAME=proc
INFO: Linking /u01/home/oracle/product/cellarm/db/precomp/lib/proc
INFO: Undefined first referenced
symbol in file
MD5Init /usr/lib/sparcv9/libnsl.so
INFO: MD5Final /usr/lib/sparcv9/libnsl.so
INFO: MD5Update /usr/lib/sparcv9/libnsl.so
INFO: ld: fatal: symbol referencing errors

 

Changes

This particular problem can show up only on Solaris 11.3 before SRU 11.3.3.6.0.
Similar problems may occur during linking of any software which incorrectly overloads the library search path.
