LTFS-LE: How to Remove a Volume When Retention is Set Very High (Doc ID 2109746.1)

Last updated on MARCH 17, 2025

Applies to:

Oracle Library LTFS (Linear Tape File System) - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

LTFS-LE has a default idle volume-in-drive retention time of 10 minutes (600 seconds). It is recommended that this setting only be adjusted if necessary. The retention time can be set as high as roughly 34 days (3,000,000 seconds) with a special patch provided by Engineering and in future releases. When the retention time is set to a higher value, an administrator may wish to manually remove an idle volume from a drive. The following procedure will outline the steps required to remove such a volume from a drive. This procedure is intended for administrators of the Oracle LTFS-LE product.

It is highly recommended that administrators only use the LTFS-LE BUI for manipulating volumes and that ACSLS only be used for gathering information about the library, drives, and volumes.
