Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

This document explains how to increase the number of alternate MAC addresses assigned to Virtual Functions (VFs) and vnets after adding more cores to an IO domain in Oracle SuperCluster.

If there are not enough Virtual Function (VF) to MAC address mappings one can encounter an error such as the one below when creating domains. This document describes a workaround for this.

failed to create VNIC: device does not support "random" mac-addresses and all factory MAC address slots are in use

Scope

This document applies only to Oracle SuperCluster IO domains. It should only be performed after adding more CPU cores to the IO domain.
