OSM or DISM locking operation may fail due to ZFS ARC on Solaris 11 systems

(Doc ID 2233278.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 08, 2018

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 11.1 to 11.3 [Release 11.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Should the issue happen, DISM or OSM locking fails with ENOMEM although the system should have enough free physical memory if ZFS ARC is evicted.
truss(1) will show memcntl(2) with MC_LOCK_GRANULE (for OSM) or MC_LOCK (for DISM) fails with ENOMEM.

Although free memory and ZFS ARC add up to more than 100GB, locking 64GB OSM or DISM is failing.

This issue can happen on Solaris 11.1 or later.
