Symptoms

Incompatible Medium Installed Error keeps appearing.

I was unable to remove the tape (# 5062) before the next 'metadata backup' (catalog backup) occurred Tuesday evening. But it's worth noting that this data was written to that tape( # 5062 ) ! No 'incompatible medium' error occurred when the tape was loaded. I realize that faulty tapes can possibly have both good and bad days, but the same might be said for the drive itself. And this isn't a question of whether the tapes can be written. The problem occurs when an attempt is made to load the tape.  I 'test loaded' several tapes this morning and only one failed to load (error: 'incompatible medium'). I tried it again with the 'failed' tape and it loaded w/o error.  That’s sort of been a common thread with this problem. Within Netbackup when the 'incompatible media' error has occurred, it would 'down' the drive. After that, I could up the drive and restart the backup w/o issue (generally).
