Applies to:
Solaris Operating System - Version 10 3/05 to 11.3 [Release 10.0 to 11.0]Information in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
After backing out Samba patches on Solaris 10 or downgrading Samba packages in-place (without switching to an older boot environment) in Solaris 11, the Samba SMF service may fail to start and end up in maintenance state:
Changes
A Samba patch such as 119757-?? (SPARC) or 119758-?? (x86) was backed out (Solaris 10) or the Samba packages were downgraded in-place (Solaris 11). Backing out the following revisions of the Samba patches or going back to the following Samba package revisions is known to cause the described problem because those actions would downgrade Samba from version 4.x to version 3.x:
- Solaris 10: Removing patches 119757-38 (SPARC) or 119758-38 (x86) or newer when the previous patch level was 119757-37 (SPARC) or 119758-37 (x86) or older
- Solaris 11: Downgrading Samba packages from pkg://solaris/service/network/samba@4.4.5,5.11-0.175.3.14.0.1.0 or newer to pkg://solaris/service/network/samba@3.6.25,5.11-0.175.3.6.0.2.0 or older
