Symptoms
Solaris Multipathing (MPxIO/scsi_vhci) continues to send I/O on paths where command timeouts have occurred.
Changes
The following enhancement requests introduced the concept of least desired path for Solaris Multipathing (MPxIO/scsi_vhci), however, still did not prevent sending I/O to paths which previously encountered transport errors.
BUG 15638923 - SUNBT6947062 - PSARC/2011/029 Least Desired pkt_path_instance
BUG 15735699 - SUNBT7079597 - PSARC/2013/196 MPxIO: least desired path instance phase II
Fix delivered in Oracle Solaris 11.1.20.5.0 (or greater), Solaris 10 SPARC Patch ID 150400-14 (or greater), Solaris 10 x86 Patch ID 150401-14 (or greater).
The following enhancement request implemented a solution, but only for Sun Common SCSI Architecture version 3 (SCSAv3) compliant drivers:
BUG 15700887 - SUNBT7024843 SCSAv3 should disable active paths that are not working
Fix delivered in Oracle Solaris 11.4.0.15.0 (or greater)
Unfortunately, the Solaris Fibre Channel drivers are not SCSAv3 compliant, and due to complexity, the risks are considered too substantial for redesign at this time.
