Ping and Getent Commands Have Hostname Lookup Failures Since Upgrading To Solaris 11.3 (Doc ID 2304661.1)

Last updated on JUNE 03, 2021

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 11.3 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Commands such as ping and getent fail to resolve a DNS host entry on Solaris 11.3 servers.

Those commands are able to resolve the DNS entry on Solaris 11.2 systems.

Attempts to ping the hostname fail with errors:

The getent command on the hostname returns no result

The nslookup command is able to resolve the hostname and the results contain a DNAME entry for a domain

Disabling the nscd daemon Service svc:/system/name-service/cache:default results in successful hostname resolution.

Changes

System was upgraded from Solaris 11.2 to Solaris 11.3
