Jumbo frames not working with bnx driver 7.10.1 (Doc ID 2337321.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 03, 2019

Applies to:

Solaris x64/x86 Operating System - Version 11.3 to 11.3 [Release 11.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The bnx interface isn't working with jumbo frames - any jumbo packet (>1500 bytes Ethernet payload) doesn't get past the bnx interface/driver.
It is evident in packet captures, if running the bnx (Broadcom NXII GbE 7.10.1) driver, which is delivered with Solaris

This results in a communication failure for any type of traffic that might send large packets - which is most everything if jumbo is enabled.

Once a standard 1500 MTU, using nonjumbo frames are implemented, everything starts working again.

What we have are:

Solaris -> bnx (Broadcom NXII GbE 7.2.2)  -> working fine with jumbo frames
Solaris -> bnx (Broadcom NXII GbE 7.10.1) -> only works if MTU=1500 for bnx interfaces.
