Tape Mount Requests Not Going To Server In SMC HTTP Environment (Doc ID 2373584.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 16, 2019

Applies to:

Sun StorageTek Storage Management Component (SMC) - Version 7.2 to 7.3 [Release 7.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Attempting to implement the SMC HTTP environment to allow our TEST system tape mounts to use the tape library on PROD. The communication is established in both SMC started tasks. But when I run a job that requires to use a tape drive in the library, I receive a message that the volume is offline. When I display the drives via the F SMC,D DRIVE command, on PROD, the drives show that they are online and ready or allocated. When I issue the command on the client, the SMC status is no status available and the MVS status is offline.

My question is, shouldn't the status of the drive be obtained from the server and is it ok that the MVS status is offline? I'm assuming that the MVS status of offline is ok, otherwise, I would be defining the library to both LPARs in the IOCDF and the drives would be online to both systems with autoswitch. But I am still questioning that the drive has no status in the SMC.
