SGD Authentication via PAM Does Not Work as Expected in new Red Hat Enterprise Linux Deployment, "Err: Invalid Credentials" (Doc ID 2430018.1)

Last updated on JUNE 06, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Secure Global Desktop - Version 5.3 to 5.4 [Release 5.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

A Secure Global Desktop Administrator has installed SGD 5.3 on a new Red Hat host machine, running Red Hat Enterprise Linux, 7.4.

Initial configuration testing was completed using locally configured UNIX user accounts, and worked as expected.  The SGD Administrator then moved to  configure the deployment so that incoming SGD users are authenticated via PAM.  Attempts to configure this environment parallel to the the customer's other hosted deployments running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9 have failed, with incoming users being denied access, with error "Invalid Credentials."

The administrator has verified the installation of pam_krb5.i686, a previously identified hurdle in their deployment.

Changes

This behavior was observed in a new install of SGD on a later operating system.

The customer's new Red Hat deployment (EL 7.4) uses SSGM, while the legacy deployment (RHEL 6.9) used access.conf explicitly.
