Symptoms
We are trying to direct-connect the T8-1 server with QLogic 32 Gb HBA to QLogic 16Gb on the ZS5-2, it only links up to 8Gb (not max 16Gb).
We have another X7-2 server configured with Emulex HBA direct-connected to the same ZS5-2 and this links up to 16Gb.
Changes
1. The issue is specific to direct connection (no switch) with QLogic Model: 7335902 (32Gb) on Solaris server to ZFS Appliance with QLogic QLE8362 (16Gb) running OS8.7.14.
OS 8.7.14 has QLogic target driver qlt version:
Manufacturer: QLogic Corp.
Model: QLE8362
Firmware Version: 8.5.0
FCode/BIOS Version: BIOS: 3.19; FCode: 4.02; EFI: 5.36;
Serial Number: 463916R+1734341014
Driver Name: COMSTAR QLT
Driver Version: 20170302-3.01 ◄◄◄
Type: point-to-point
State: offline ◄◄◄
Supported Speeds: 4Gb 8Gb 16Gb
Current Speed: 16Gb
Node WWN: 2000000e1e1dd471
Workaround:
If Solaris 11.3 server qlc.conf is hard set to 8Gb speed, it will connect.
--------------------
2. The X7-2 Solaris 11.3 Server with Emulex 32GB HBA will auto-negotiate to 16Gb (i.e the maximum speed on QLogic QLE8362).
No modification in emlxs.conf is required
--------------------
3. We have tested on an older ZFS appliance an older OS with qlt driver and this does auto-negotatiate to 16Gb
