Solaris 11.4: chown/chgrp Ineffective - No Change in Owner/Group - on NFSv4 Mounted Filesystems
(Doc ID 2472606.1)
Last updated on OCTOBER 19, 2020
Applies to:
Solaris Operating System - Version 11.4 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
Two Solaris servers accessing to the same share, one NFS client is running Solaris 11.3 (Oracle Solaris 11.3.35.6.0).
The other NFS client is a newly updated Solaris 11.4 (Oracle Solaris 11.4.2.3.0).
When an chown/chgrp command is issued no errors are returned (as expected) but the user:group values are not changed when the request is made from the client running 11.4.
A truss command shows that a slightly different chown system call is being used in Solaris 11.4, but results should not change:
Solaris 11.3
Changes
The NFS client experiencing the issue is running Solaris 11.4. Earlier Solaris releases interact with the customer's NFSv4 server with no issues.
