Programs on Linux guest OS do not response and there are a lot of "execution time for ATA command" logs (Doc ID 2562915.1)

Last updated on JULY 29, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle VM VirtualBox - Version 4.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Users may find when they run their programs on the Linux guest OS, sometimes the program does not reply to other devices.
As the other devices fail to get response from the program, errors occur and the function customer wants to implement does not work.
When the problem happens, there are many messages as below in the vbox.log.

Sometimes the problem can recover by itself after a while, sometimes users need to restart guest OS.
It has been identified that the problematic guests had more disk IO operations(file read/write and saving files) than the non-problematic guests.
