ACSLS: October 2019 WebLogic CPU Security Patches Are Available For The ACSLS 8.5.1 Release

 

Actions

The Oracle WebLogic Server Patch Set Update patches (one per OS, for a total of 3) are now available on MOS.

This patch updates the following:

Weblogic 10.3.6 (as included in the ACSLS product)

Prerequisites:

ACSLS version 8.5.1 or later is installed
ACSLS database is backed up (see the ACSLS Admin Guide for instructions).
A minimum of 1 hour of down time (depending on environmental conditions and operator experience more time may be required).

The 'wlUpdate.sh' utility will allow a customer to patch the ACSLS 8.5.1 release with the October 2019 WebLogic CPU security patches.

This utility enables a customer to apply WebLogic security patches should they require the same to their instance of ACSLS. Bundled with the patch utility will be the necessary documentation to explain how to use this utility.

 

To Acquire The Oracle WebLogic Server Patch Set Update

  1. Sign in to My Oracle Support (MOS).
  2. Click on the "Patches & Updates" tab near the top of the window.
  3. In the Patch Search pane, click on "Product or Family(Advanced Search)."
  4. In the Product field, type "acsls" and then choose 'Sun StorageTek Auto Cartridge Sys Lib SW (ACSLS)'.
  5. In the Release field pulldown, select 'STK ACSLS 8.5'.
  6. Close the release pulldown window and click on the Search button.
  7. It should return the following three choices:

    30695167        WebLogic Update for ACSLS 8.5.1 Linux (Patch)                 8.5.1          Linux x86-64
    30695173        WebLogic Update for ACSLS 8.5.1 Solaris SPARC (Patch)     8.5.1         Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
    30695175        WebLogic Update for ACSLS 8.5.1 Solaris X86-64 (Patch)    8.5.1         Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)

  8. Choose 'Download' to download one of those packages.
Note: This patch only applies to ACSLS 8.5.1. If a customer is on a lower version of ACSLS this patch should NOT be applied.

This is because other changes were made to 8.5.1 in some WebLogic settings to correspond to other WebLogic CPU changes made during the course of the year and these CPUs build upon those changes; additionally the version of Java being used must be the same as required for ACSLS 8.5.1.  If a customer wants to use this utility, they should up grade to ACSLS 8.5.1 first. 

To Install The Oracle WebLogic Server Patch Set Update

  1. Verify all prerequisites listed above.
  2. Login as 'root' user.
  3. Download the wlUpdate patch utility and extract it.
  4. Stop any running WebLogic server.
    For Linux: service weblogic stop
    For Solaris: svcadm disable weblogic
  5. Change to the extracted wlUpdate directory
  6. Run the command ./wlUpdate.sh

This procedure will take several minutes to complete.

Post-Installation Instructions

  1. Verify the patch level using the command, wlVersion.sh.
    Sample output:
    WebLogic Server 10.3.6.0.<current patch installed>
  2. Restart all WebLogic servers.

Uninstalling The Oracle WebLogic Server Patch Set Update

  1. Stop all WebLogic Servers
  2. As 'root', go to the wlUpdate directory and run the command:
    ./wlUpdate.sh uninstall 

Post-Uninstallation Instructions

  1. Verify the patch level using the command, wlVersion.sh.
    Sample outupt:
    WebLogic Server 10.3.6.0
  2. Restart weblogic. As user 'acsss', run the command:
    acsss enable

 

IMPORTANT: Preserving the Ability to Return to Previous Patches:

This wlUpdate.sh utility removes previous patches and applies the most up-to-date ones. It is possible that this may result in a system incompatibility or behavior which makes it desirable to return to the previous patch level, at least temporarily.  To do this you need to preserve the original patch zipfiles which were applied to weblogic. It is recommended that you preserve those original zipfiles, even though this utility removes the patch contained in the zipfile from weblogic.

Those patch zipfiles are delivered under the wlUpdate subdirectory both in the original ACSLS zipfile and in the standalone wlUpdate utility zipfile.  Toward this goal, it is best that you locate the new wlUpdate directory so as not to overlay any old one, or otherwise take action to preserve the original patch zipfiles for your system.

If you have lost or deleted those zipfiles, they are accessible via MOS or out on the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud.
