Last updated on APRIL 30, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Secure Global Desktop - Version 5.4 to 5.5 [Release 5.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Details

The Secure Global Desktop (SGD) 5.4 product family reached the end of its extended premier support life in April, 2020.

The subsequent 5.5 product was originally published in June of 2019, and introduced significant changes in product packaging and installation methods. Built with performance and modularity in mind, this product is tightly integrated with Oracle Linux as an installation platform, and is installed in feature-specific packages.

Note: Additional details regarding SGD 5.5, including an overview of the many new features and improvements introduced in this release can be found within the original product announcement, (Doc ID 2556032.1).

The latest release of Secure Global Desktop at the time of writing is version 5.50.093 (5.5 Update 3).

Implications for Solaris Customers

Support for Solaris Applications

SGD 5.5 will continue to actively support Solaris (x86 and Sparc) as a premier Application Server platform.  Unix Applications hosted on Solaris servers may be securely provisioned to connecting users with this product, including native Solaris support for extended features provided by the optional SGD Enhancement Module

Support for Solaris Installation Platforms

SGD 5.5 is available for installation on Oracle Linux, exclusively.

The reference maintenance release of SGD running on Solaris platforms, (x86 and Sparc), is SGD 5.4, updated with the recently published April 2020 maintenance updates.  For reference purposes, this maintenance platform is enumerated below: these patches are the final updates for this product family--and specifically--for Solaris installation platforms.

Tools designed to streamline the migration of an existing SGD 5.4 deployment on Solaris to SGD 5.5 on Linux are available

In the interim, the SGD Service team will continue to provide "Sustaining Support" for Solaris-based deployments of the SGD 5.4 release, as described within Oracle's Global lifetime support statement, available here: https://www.oracle.com/us/support/library/lifetime-support-hardware-301321.pdf

Final SGD 5.4 Maintenance Release

For reference, a summary of the latest available maintenance updates for SGD 5.4 for Solaris Installations (x86 and Sparc) is outlined below.  Details regarding individual updates--including new features, important fixes, and download instructions--may be found within the corresponding KM link.

Actions

Customers that manage legacy SGD installations deployed on Solaris platforms are encouraged to contact the Desktop Virtualization service team for additional information regarding the tools available to facilitate the migration of SGD Servers to Linux, and the latest best practices for completing this transition.

Support for existing applications, and existing application servers will remain unchanged: SGD Administrators will need only to upgrade the Enhancement Module that was previously installed on the Solaris platform  to the 5.5 equivalent, much as they have done in earlier releases of the product.
