External Tracking for LAN/WAN Devices so HA will Monitor These Devices as part of the HA Configuration (Doc ID 2675143.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 02, 2021

Applies to:

Talari T5200 - Version Edge 8.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Summary: If you want HA to flip when a LAN side or WAN side device become become unresponsive, you need to have those IP addresses listed as External Tracking IP Addresses in the HA portion of the configuration. However, this may also require you to give the SD WAN appliance a "presence" within that subnet for High Availability. Meaning, you may have to add and HA IP Interface and define HA Control IP Addresses that are within the same subnet of the device you want to track. Then, you will be able to add the External Tracking IP without getting an audit error.

Steps:
1. High Availability > HA Interfaces > +. Pick from your existing Virtual Interfaces and give the SD WAN appliances two Control IPs in the proper subnet.
2. External Tracking > + > add the IP addresses of any device you want to impact the SD WAN's HA algorithm within that subnet.
3. Repeat with a different Virtual Interface, two new Control IPs, and additional External Tracking IPs if you have more devices in different subnets you would like to track.

Symptoms

The customer is concerned with his HA deployment and does not think the units will failover properly during testing of the switches. The test should be done by Monday 5/25/20. If the HA units do not failover properly, we will obtain a Diagnostic from both appliances to determine the cause.
