HSM: Using samfsdump and samfsrestore to Backup and Restore
(Doc ID 2684674.1)
Last updated on DECEMBER 02, 2024
Applies to:
Oracle Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) and StorageTek QFS Software - Version 6.1 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Purpose
This document assists with the use of the samfsdump/samfsrestore utility.
- samfsdump, which will dump just the file metadata (default behavior), to a dump file, using the -f flag.
- samfsrestore, which will restore file metadata from the dump file to the filesystem
There is only one man page for both samfsdump and samfsrestore because it's the same executable binary. That man page is found here: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E71197_01/SAMCR/samfsdump.1m.htm
As the man page shows, that -u flag can only be used with samfsdump, which will then also dump the data portions of the files that are without at least one archive copy.
Some command examples are documented in the 'Details' section below.
Note: If running with the QFS packages only, you would be using qfsdump and qfsrestore for the examples shown in this document. However, some of the command options do differ.
