SuperCluster Cannot Communicate with Storage Cells and/or Other RAC Nodes - Oracle CRS Does Not Start (Doc ID 2706878.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 02, 2020

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 11.3 to 11.4 [Release 11.0]
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Upon boot - particularly bootup of zones which are RAC cluster nodes, communication to some storage cells, and also other RAC node(s) is not possible.     The issue is most likely to happen after a "RAC node" has booted.

Attempts with Solaris ping (ICMP, over the IPoIB ib_bondN, or stor_ipmp0 IPMP groups) and rds-ping fail to some storage cell or ZFSSA addresses, but do not necessarily fail to all addresses.    Same with other nodes in the RAC cluster, when communication is attempted over IPoIB or RDS.

Due to the communication issue, the Oracle Cluster Ready Services (CRS, the "grid" processes) will not start - the zone or domain therefore cannot be part of the Oracle DB RAC cluster.

This has been seen after updates to Solaris 11.4 (via the SuperCluster Q2 2019 QFSDP or later), although it is technically possible to be seen in Solaris 11.3 releases.
