HSM: Not Archiving, With Volumes Not Mounting (Doc ID 2716427.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 01, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) and StorageTek QFS Software - Version 6.1.4 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

This issue was reported by a secure site that could not provide data.

The host is running 11.4.23.69.3. Their SL3000 has firmware FRS_651(3.47.00) and the T10kD drives have firmware 4.16.101-5.60 on them.

They reported watching the tape drives in samu and seeing it trying to mount specific volumes, then go back empty.  Looking at the storagetek library console they are not seeing them show up in the drives.

The showqueue output is reporting "all drives in use"

When watching the samu 't' display, it looks like a volume is trying to be loaded in multiple drives at the same time.  They also observed the samu 't' display showing a message flash saying "mounting" then it immediately says 'empty'.

We looked at the devlog and they said that one of these attempts showed the following:

Doing a 'samd stop;samd start" would typically get some archiving going again but it eventually it would stall and shows the same errors above.

We had the customer confirm their drive ordering. We tried auditing the library from the SLconsole and also moving the tape catalog out of the way and having HSM rebuild a new catalog.
