ksh88 scripts fail on Solaris 11.3 and 11.4 (Doc ID 2723241.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 26, 2020

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 11.3 to 11.4 [Release 11.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Scripts that were running on Solaris 10 core on Solaris 11.3 and Solaris 11.4 using ksh93

A bug was originally filed on this issue:

Bug id: 30365893 Scripts that were running on Solaris 10 do not run on Solaris 11.4 using ksh88/93

Engineering implemented a fix and then had to back it out because it caused
too many other bugs.  A clarification was received from engineering regarding this bug.
The issue does not exist in ksh88 but still exists in ksh93.

The ksh88 package is still available in Solaris 11.3 and has been included in Solaris 11.4 since the beginning.
