HSM: Archiving Tape Usage Disparity (Doc ID 2757204.1)

Customer reported that when archiving the same set of files (same archreq), to make a copy 2 and copy 3, to blank tapes, put into two different LTO5 drives (two different tape copies), there was a tape usage discrepancy seen.

We expected all 147 files in the archreq, to take up the same amount of space, on the two new LTO5 cartridges.

His 'copy 3' completed writing all 147 files to LTO5 tape Cxxxx2, using up 79% of the tape.
However, his 'copy 2' only wrote 74 files to LTO5 tape Cxxxx9, using 100% of the tape, and now needs another blank tape to finish writing files.

Both drives appear to be using compression (/dev/rmt/Xcbn devices).

It was suggested that a drive dump be taken for analysis by Tape Engineering.  The following instructions were provided to do this:
