Applies to:
Solaris Operating System - Version 10 to 11.4 [Release 10.0 to 11.0]Information in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
NON-Oracle x86 server.
NON-Oracle vmware hypervisor.
Virtual Machine (vm) with Oracle Solaris 11.4 x86 installed years ago that sees 2 disk devices that were probably added during installation.
Customer wants to add a third disk device without having to reboot Solaris instance / vm.
Customer has mapped the disk device per standard vmware procedure then ran devfsadm -Cv and cfgadm -al on Solaris but it does not pick up new device.
The VMWARE team has reviewed the logs and they do not see any reason for the Solaris OS not to see the disks.
Host: NON-Oracle.x86.Host
