SL4000 - SCI Partition System Cell Import & Export to Cap Failed (Doc ID 2774938.1)

The recommendation to manage Drive Cleaning in a SCI partition in the SL4000 is to use the Library Manager, ACSLS or ELS, to manage Drive Cleaning; reference the following knowledge article:

SL3000/SL4000/SL8500 - General Drive Cleaning Management Information and Recommendations (Doc ID 2075930.1).

If the SL4000 Library Controller is configured to manage Drive Cleaning using the SL4000 GUI and an Export is attempted, it can fail and leave the Cap in an unusable state.


1. SL4000 with SCI Partition interface configured.

2. Attempt to export expired cleaning tapes; SL4000 GUI—Cells/Tapes—Cleaning Tapes—Import/Export System Cells

3. The Export request fails, Cap state after Export failure; Unlocked, Closed, Online, and Operative.

4. After the export request fails, the CAP is unlocked and there are no options to set the Cap owner making the Cap unusable.
