Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) Connections via Internet Protocol Front End (IPFE) Send REBOOTING To virtual Diameter Routing Agents (VDRAs) (Doc ID 2793219.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 21, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) - Version DSR 8.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Diameter Signaling Routers(DSRs) send REBOOTING on IPFE connections to vDRAs after Capabilities Exchange Request (CER)/(Capabilities Exchange Answer (CEA):

- Both ends sends the Rebooting
- Some connections takes several minutes to established
- After the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) was standardized to 1500, some connections were established successfully as expected but other still are affected.
- IPFE selects the Message Processor (MP) based on the least used algorithm, hence, connections will move to a different MP.

Events reported:

The affected connections are unstable. Two cases:

 a. The connection is restarted by remote peer after more than 1 minute.
 b. The connection is restarted by local peer after few milliseconds.

This is a Responder only connection mode.

1. From the first trace provided and filtering by Diameter protocol:

   Frame 18: CER

                   Attribute-Value Pair: Host-IP-Address(257) l=14 f=-M- val=X.X.X.233
Frame 26: CEA is send by the DSR:
                   Attribute-Value Pair: Host-IP-Address(257) l=14 f=-M- val=Y.Y.Y.6
                   Attribute-Value Pair: Result-Code(268) l=12 f=-M- val=DIAMETER_SUCCESS (2001)
                   Product-Name: Eagle XG DSR

Frame 42: Disconnect-Peer Request (DPR) is received from the remote peer
                   Attribute-Value Pair: Disconnect-Cause(273) l=12 f=-M- val=REBOOTING (0)
   Frame 43: Disconnect-Peer Answer (DPA)

Frame 57: CER from remote peer
   Frame 68: CEA
Frame 69: DPR is send by the local peer
   Frame 70: DPA

Frame 73: CER from remote peer
   Frame 76: CEA
Frame 77: DPR from remote peer
   Frame 84: DPA

2. On the second trace name provided and filtering by Diameter protocol:

Frame 20: CER from remote peer

                   Attribute-Value Pair: Host-IP-Address(257) l=14 f=-M- val=X.X.X.233
Frame 30: CEA is send by the DSR:

                   Attribute-Value Pair: Result-Code(268) l=12 f=-M- val=DIAMETER_SUCCESS (2001)
                   Product-Name: Eagle XG DSR

Frame 40: DPR is received from the remote peer
