Information in this document applies to any platform.
ZFS Storage for OCI has the root user created but it cannot be used by default. This is due to a combination of the setting in the ssh service that disallows ssh as root and the lack of a known password. The lack of the password prevents the follow 3 things.
- Logging into the Browser User Interface (BUI) as root
- Becoming root via direct logon or via the su command. A number of troubleshooting method require root access
- Configuring the instance as a replication target. This feature requires the root password
These three concerns can be alleviated using one or both of the methods below depending on which of the issues you are trying to resolve.
