No Client Printer Available After Upgrade to Oracle Secure Global Desktop (SGD) 5.6 U4 (Doc ID 2834539.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 10, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Secure Global Desktop - Version 5.6 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Client: Windows 10 with Firefox 78.0 browser using Java client
Server: SGD 5.6 Update 4 on RHEL 7.9 with tta_printer, tta_pdfviewer, tta_pdfprinter

SGD provides a Gnome desktop which allows me to use standard print commands to submit print requests. The print job shows up on the SGD Web Desktop and I can select the "List All Jobs" button and see it queued. But the printer icon (down in the left hand corner) has a red cross. When I hover over the icon the tool tip displays "No Client Printer Available".

SGD 5.6:
"Info" button, "Detailed diagnostics":
Code Location: null
Local Print Queue Status: noclientprinter
Default Printer: null

On my SGD 5.4 client, I see:
Code Location: C:\Users\uname\Local Settings\temp\Oracle Secure Global Desktop\clients\5.40.966
Local Printer Queue Status: resumed
Default Printer: \\localobfuscatedl\Dev-Printer

Windows 10 client has a default printer defined.

SGD 5.6 documentation states:

5.1.9.1.1: Does SGD Support Printing for the Client Device or Printer Type?
Check the Printing area on the workspace. Does the printer icon contain a red cross and is the message “No Client Printer Available” displayed?
If so, this means that SGD does not support printing for this client device or printer type, or that there was an error creating client printers.

Since this works on SGD 5.4, I think printing is supported and the printer type would not have changed.
But what is meant by "an error creating client printers"?

When I select the "List All Jobs" button and the print jobs are listed, there is an options column that has two buttons "Run" as a blue arrow button and "Cancel" as a blue X.

If I select the blue X, the following information is displayed in the /opt/tarantella/var/log/jserverxxxx_error.log on the RHEL 7.9 SGD server:

No client printer configured for host.dev.int:xxxxxxxxx:xxxxxxxxxxxx
Unable to print jobs: {uname-xxxxxxxxx}
The operation has failed.
Configure a client printer and retry.

Changes

Installed client was recently upgraded to the t.60.55 (U4) version.
