HSM: The tplabel Utility Returns Unlabeled (Doc ID 2882488.1)

Symptoms

Secure site customer said that when he tries to tplabel it mounts, it read the existing label, then appears to write the label, but the message when it appeared to finish was "unlabeled".

Also, the E flag set and, after VSN, the catalog ('samcmd v' output) showed MEDIA ERROR


However, when the customer ran the dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/rmt/Xcbn count=1024 they received the error "Write permission denied" and the label was still there. 


We confirmed they were not using WORM and that there was no physical write protect switch set on their volumes.
