Python 2.7 in Solaris 11.4 - All acceptable versions of 'require' dependency on runtime/python-27 are obsolete
(Doc ID 2970248.1)
Last updated on DECEMBER 14, 2023
Applies to:
Solaris Operating System - Version 11.4 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
Python 2.7 is no longer available in Solaris 11.4.57.144.3 (SRU 57) and later.
Update may fail due to this dependency. Updating Solaris 11.4 SRU to 57 or later reports several packages related to OVM must be uninstalled or upgraded.
The reason is mentioned as : "All acceptable versions of 'require' dependency on runtime/python-27 are obsolete".
Changes
Starting with Oracle Solaris 11.4.42 (Oracle Solaris 11.4 SRU 42), most dependencies on Python 2.7 have been removed and the Python 2.7 runtime and modules are no longer installed by default. Python 2.7 is not, at this time, automatically removed on upgrade to 11.4.42 (or later) from an earlier SRU. See Oracle Solaris 11.4.42.113.1 Support Repository Update (Oracle Solaris 11.4 SRU 42.113.1) (Doc ID 2848201.1).
Starting with Solaris 11.4.57.144.3 (SRU 57), Python 2.7 is no longer available. See EOFs in Oracle Solaris 11.4.57.144.3 Support Repository Update (Oracle Solaris 11.4 SRU 57.144.3) (Doc ID 2949606.1). See also the public EOF document End of Feature Notices for Oracle Solaris 11.
