Symptoms
Various hard disk drive critical errors and/or warnings, such as:
Critical - “Data hard disk failed.”
Critical - "Data hard disk entered predictive failure status."
In some cases, prior to critical errors and/or warnings, the OS /var/log/messages logs indicate a wide variety of errors, but none severe enough to cause drive fault or drive offline.
