Connecting to My Oracle Support Community (MOSC) Fails with Error Message "Unauthorized Access to this place or content is restricted" (Doc ID 2020565.1)

Last updated on MARCH 05, 2024

Applies to:

My Oracle Support - Version 6 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Note:  This document may be out of date, as it applies to the old community platform technology.

An approved Customer Support Identifier (CSI) user is unable to access the Community site from inside My Oracle Support (MOS).  After logging into MOS, clicking the Community tab to navigate to the My Oracle Support Community results in the following error:

Unauthorized Access to this place or content is restricted.
If you think this is a mistake, please contact your administrator or the person who directed you here.

Steps to Reproduce:

   1. Log in to My Oracle Support (support.oracle.com)
   2. Select the Communities tab
   3. New tab or window opens and error is seen.

Alternatively, try accessing the My Oracle Support Community main page directly at https://community.oracle.com/community/support; error is produced.

This error may also be seen if the user attempts to access a community URL (either specific content or a MOSC space/location) that is no longer valid, such as when a thread has been taken offline by a moderator (either temporarily or permanently) to address a "sensitive content" issue.

It is important to determine whether the user's difficulty lies in accessing specific content, or whether the user cannot access or use the My Oracle Support Community (MOSC) site as a whole.

Hint: If no error is produced when the user tries to access the My Oracle Support Community main landing page (https://community.oracle.com/community/support), the issue is likely content-related and not user-related.  The rest of this article assumes that the user has determined the problem to be permissions-based (i.e., user-specific).
